"Communities in Bloom" is a National
competition, begun to encourage communities to take
pride in their surroundings. Last year Innisfail won
tops in the Provincial competition for their population
category, and competed this year Nationally. Final
results will not be known until the fall.
The Dr. George House Preservation
Society entered the Dr. George/Kemp House and grounds in
the Town competition both years, and was successful this
year in winning the Institutional/Organization category.
Members of the Board and some
volunteers have done a lot of work to beautify the
grounds which have an Old Fashioned Garden, a Memorial
Rose Garden, an Herb garden and many other areas
furbished with flowers. These areas are a beautiful
addition to a lovely period home which houses the Dr.
George Museum and Katy Jane's Tea Room. It also has
areas conducive to meetings, wedding banquets and other
activities. The House is open Monday - Friday, 10am to
4:30pm from Mother's Day to Labour Day weekend, and by
